This spun silk thread has silk's beauty, luster, and shine, but doesn't catch on your hands. The size of one strand is comparable to other stranded silks, such as Splendor, Soie Cristale, and Soie d'Alger. Gloriana Silk is soft and remarkably easy to stitch with.
Our speciality is pure silk thread for handsewing of all kinds and we have 600 shades! Our silk comes in skeins, each skein consisting of 6 strands of monofilament silk, each of 7 yards (6.5 metres) in length, the whole wound into a simple skein. A skein is ??£2.50. We sell the skeins individually by shade or in sets. The sets work out as more economical, the larger the set, the greater the price reduction.
Alger silk, 7 strands, in a palette of 605 colours for embroidery and tapestry, available in 8 and 45 metre skeins or 100 gram hanks (About 390 metres). This silk is loosly plyed and can be split easily. It doesn't come from Algeria. The name "Alger" refers to a special domestic process.
It is made of the best quality spun silk (called strusas) which gives it an unrivalled regularity, lustrous and softness. Contrary to our competitors, our thread does not snarl in the needle and has a good tensile strength. It resists also very well to abrasion.
